About AnonCam

We believe privacy is a right, not a privilege. AnonCam was built to give people a space for real conversations without the baggage of personal data collection.

Our Philosophy

Most online communication platforms are designed to extract value from your data. Your conversations, your contacts, your behavior — everything gets profiled, analyzed, and sold. We started AnonCam as a reaction to this surveillance economy. Our platform is intentionally minimal, because the less data we collect, the better it is for you.

Anonymity isn't about hiding something; it's about having the freedom to be yourself without consequences. Many people want to explore conversations, meet new people, or practice languages without revealing their identity to strangers. That's a legitimate need we're happy to fulfill.

The problem with traditional chat platforms

  • Forced registration — Email, phone number, social login. You hand over personal data just to start chatting.
  • Permanent profiles — Your chat history, photos, and personal info stay forever, often accessible to others.
  • Algorithmic matching — They analyze you, categorize you, and feed you "relevant" people based on data mining.
  • Data retention — Many services keep logs for months or years, creating a permanent record of your conversations.
  • Tracking — Analytics pixels, cookies, and third-party trackers follow you across the web.

What Makes AnonCam Different

We took a radically different approach. AnonCam has no concept of user accounts. There's no database storing your information because we never ask for it. When you disconnect from a chat, that conversation is gone from our memory. It's like talking to a stranger in a park — once you walk away, there's no trace.

Key differences at a glance

  • Zero registration — Open the site and start chatting. No email verification, no password, no username even if you don't want one.
  • No logs — Chat messages and video streams are not recorded or stored. Technical data is kept in volatile memory only.
  • Random matching only — No profiling, no "smart" algorithms. You get a random available person. That's it.
  • You control the camera — Video is optional. Many users prefer text-only, and we support that fully without asking for camera permission.
  • No tracking — We don't use Google Analytics, Facebook pixels, or any third-party tracking. Your IP address isn't logged.
  • Open source components — Where possible, we use open WebRTC and browser-native APIs without proprietary backends.

Why We Built This

The idea came from noticing how hard it had become to have spontaneous, private conversations online. Everything requires an account. Everything is recorded. Everything is monetized. We missed the simplicity of early internet chat rooms where you could be anonymous and meet random people without handing over your personal details.

We also recognize that not everyone wants to be on camera all the time. Some people are shy, some are in public spaces, some simply prefer typing. That's why we designed AnonCam to treat text as a first-class citizen, not an afterthought.

The name "AnonCam" says it all: Anonymous Camera, but also Anonymous Can — as in, you can be anonymous if you choose to.

Our Commitment

We promise to keep AnonCam free of charge for basic usage. We promise to minimize data collection and be transparent about what we do collect (which is almost nothing). We promise to fight against any attempt to weaken privacy features for commercial gain. If we ever introduce premium features, they will enhance the experience without compromising the core privacy guarantees for free users.

We also commit to regular security audits, open-sourcing more of the codebase over time, and clearly communicating any changes to data handling practices.
