Stay safe while meeting strangers online. Follow these essential guidelines to protect your privacy and have a positive experience on AnonCam.

Chat Safely Now

Why Safety Matters

AnonCam connects you with random strangers. Most people are harmless, but some may have bad intentions. Even though we're an anonymous platform with minimal data collection, you still need to protect yourself from scams, harassment, and unwanted advances. These safety tips apply to any online interaction with strangers, not just AnonCam.

Important: AnonCam is for adults 18+. Minors are not allowed. You are responsible for your own safety decisions. The platform provides tools, but you must use good judgment.

Essential Safety Rules

  1. Never share personal information — This includes your real name, address, phone number, email, workplace/school name, social media handles, birth date, financial info, or anything that could identify you in real life. Not even if they seem trustworthy. Once shared, you can't take it back.
  2. Assume the other person is recording — They could be using screen capture software or photographing your video with their phone. Don't show anything you wouldn't want saved and potentially shared online later. This is the biggest risk on any video chat platform.
  3. Don't click links — If someone sends you a URL, don't click it. It could lead to phishing sites, malware, or scam pages. Hover to see the URL first, but even then, better to ignore. Legitimate people won't be offended if you skip links.
  4. Don't download files — Never accept or download files from strangers. They could contain viruses, ransomware, or illegal content.
  5. Don't send money or financial info — Any request for money, gift cards, or financial assistance is a scam. Period. No exceptions. If they claim to be in trouble and need help, they're manipulating you.
  6. Be skeptical of sob stories — Scammers often create elaborate emotional stories (sick relative, stranded abroad, emergency) to elicit sympathy and money. It's usually fiction.
  7. Skip uncomfortable conversations — If someone makes inappropriate comments, asks personal questions, or behaves weirdly, click "Next" immediately. You don't owe them an explanation. Trust your instincts.
  8. Use a VPN for extra privacy — While we don't log IPs, a VPN adds another layer by masking your real IP from us and from the person you're talking to. This is optional but recommended for privacy-conscious users.
  9. Stay in public chat mode — Don't move to private, off-platform communication ( Skype, WhatsApp, Telegram) unless you've built significant trust over multiple positive interactions. Moving off-platform exposes you to more risk and eliminates our reporting tools.
  10. Report abusive users — Use the Report button if someone violates rules (harassment, nudity, spam, scams). Reports are anonymous and help keep the platform safer. Don't just skip — report so we can ban them.

Recognizing Common Scams

Be aware of these patterns:

The "Sugar Baby" / "Sugar Daddy" Scam Someone (often pretending to be an attractive young person) offers a relationship in exchange for financial support. They'll ask for money for "rent," "tuition," or "to meet." It's always a scam.
The Investment / Crypto Pump They claim to be successful traders and want to share wealth. They'll direct you to a "sure thing" investment platform that's actually a Ponzi scheme or outright theft.
The "I Want to Move to Your Country" Scam After building rapport, they claim they want to relocate to be with you but need money for "visa fees," "travel documents," "emergency expenses." The emergency always involves money from you.
The Phishing Link They send a link disguised as "fun content" (e.g., "see my other pics here") that leads to a fake login page designed to steal credentials. Never log in through links strangers send.
The Blackmail Threat Rare but serious: someone records your video (possible via their own screen capture) and threatens to distribute it unless you pay. This is extortion. Do not pay. Contact law enforcement if threatened. Note: We cannot protect you from other users' recordings.

Safety Checklist Before Starting

  • VPN active (optional but recommended)
  • Camera view checked — nothing sensitive in background
  • Browser in incognito/private mode if you don't want history saved
  • Do not have sensitive documents/items visible on desk
  • Understand that anything shown can be recorded by the other person
  • Ready to click "Next" or "Report" immediately if needed

Video Chat Specific Risks

Video introduces unique considerations:

  • Background exposure — Ensure your room doesn't show personal items: photos with names, mail, diplomas, family pictures, unique artwork, license plates, anything that could identify you or your location.
  • Reflections — Mirrors, glass, screens can reveal more than you intend. Check your camera angle and reflections.
  • Voice recognition — Even if you're not showing face, your voice could be recognized by someone who knows you. Use text if voice privacy is needed.
  • Facial recognition — If you appear on camera, facial recognition tech could potentially identify you if your image is captured and used elsewhere. Consider obscuring face partially if paranoid.
  • Consistent environment — Don't video chat from the same location repeatedly if you're concerned about location tracking via background details.

Protecting Your Device

  • Keep browser and OS updated for security patches.
  • Use antivirus/anti-malware software.
  • Don't grant any browser permissions beyond camera/mic if not needed.
  • Clear browser cookies and cache periodically.
  • Consider using a separate browser profile or even a separate device for activities like random chat.
  • Don't reuse passwords from other sites — though we don't have accounts, good hygiene matters elsewhere.

Emotional Safety

Not all risks are technical. Emotional well-being matters too:

  • You may encounter weird or offensive people — It's part of random chat. Don't take it personally. Skip and move on.
  • Don't seek validation — Random strangers' opinions don't define your worth. If you find yourself seeking approval from chat partners, take a break.
  • Set boundaries and enforce them — If someone crosses a line, say so, report, and block via skipping.
  • Take breaks — It's easy to get hooked on the novelty. Set time limits to avoid burnout.
  • Don't get attached — These are fleeting interactions. It's fine to enjoy conversations, but remember you'll likely never talk to this person again.

What to Do If You Feel Unsafe

  1. Immediately disconnect — Click "Next" or close browser tab.
  2. Report the user — Use the report button during chat or as soon as possible after.
  3. Revoke camera permission — If they attempted to record, revoke camera permission in browser settings immediately.
  4. Change routines — If you encountered someone who knew personal details (impossible from us but possible if you shared), consider varying your online activity times.
  5. Document if needed — If a threat is serious, take screenshots (but be careful not to reveal your own screen/camera).
  6. Contact authorities — If you received credible threats of violence, blackmail, or other illegal activity, report to local law enforcement.

Our Moderation System

AnonCam uses automated content filters to detect explicit visual content and problematic text patterns. Users flagged via reports are reviewed and banned if violations are confirmed. Bans are IP+session based and persistent. However, because we're anonymous and don't require registration, determined bad actors can create new sessions easily. This is the tradeoff of anonymity — we can't have perfect safety without sacrificing privacy.

We do not proactively monitor all chats (that would require storing them). We react to reports and use AI assist for initial detection. The system isn't perfect, which is why your vigilance matters.

Legal Considerations

You must be 18+ to use AnonCam. It is illegal for minors to use this service. By using, you affirm you are of legal age in your jurisdiction.

Do not engage in illegal activities on AnonCam, including but not limited to: soliciting minors, distributing illegal content, making threats, harassment that rises to illegal level, fraud. We will cooperate with law enforcement when legally compelled.
